Rotary Club of Lekki phase 1 skill acquisition programme for five disabled youth
The Rotary Club of Lekki Phase 1 recently hosted a skill acquisition program for five disabled youth, reaffirming its dedication to addressing societal needs. In addition, the club donated 20 brand new wheelchairs to two Lagos hospitals: Island Maternity Hospital and General Hospital in the Central Business District of Broad Street, with each hospital receiving 10 wheelchairs.
During the presentation, the 2021-2022 Rotary Club President, known as the Change Maker President (CMP), Rtn. Ifeoma Anieze Corona, highlighted that this initiative was a means of giving back to the community and serving humanity. She remarked, “We visited the centers to assess their needs and offer support as a club. The government can’t do everything alone; humanitarian efforts like these are vital for societal progress. That’s why we’re here—to provide equipment that will benefit patients in these hospitals.”
Rtn. Corona further emphasized that donating medical equipment aligns with Rotary’s focus on health, saying, “Providing such equipment is part of our humanitarian service. Today, we’re here to donate wheelchairs to Island Maternity Hospital and General Hospital, fulfilling one of Rotary’s key areas of focus.”
She also expressed that giving has always been her passion, and Rotary has broadened her opportunities for charitable work. “I am very happy to be part of this project today. There’s joy in giving, especially when you know it will benefit many. The government needs the support of organizations like Rotary to succeed in areas like this.”
Oluwatoyin Champion, Head of Nurses at Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, expressed her gratitude on behalf of the hospital’s management, thanking the Rotary Club of Lekki Phase 1 for their generous donation. She assured that the wheelchairs would be put to good use, adding, “These are essential tools for us, used daily. We are grateful for your support and open to future partnerships with the Rotary Club. We’re also willing to offer health education to your members as part of our own CSR efforts.”
