Rotary Club of Lekki phase 1 donates furniture to schools

The Rotary Club of Lekki Phase 1 has donated furniture to students at Gbara Community Senior Secondary School, Gbara-Maiyegun, Ajah, Lagos. During the official presentation, the 2023-2024 President of the club, Hope President Mr. Mike Jaga, emphasized that supporting basic education and literacy is one of Rotary International’s six core areas of focus.

Mr. Jaga stated that the Rotary Club of Lekki Phase 1 is more committed than ever to implementing sustainable projects that have a direct impact on students. He urged the students to take good care of the furniture, noting that their ability to maintain the items would encourage the club to continue supporting them. He also highlighted that September is designated by Rotary International as Basic Education and Literacy Month.

“In Rotary, each month is dedicated to a specific area of service, and this is why we are presenting this furniture to commemorate Education and Literacy Month. Education is crucial in every aspect of our lives, and we encourage students to strive for excellence while upholding good behavior. We recognize that the government cannot do it alone, which is why Rotary steps in to offer support. We believe that improving education and instilling good values in our children will make our society a better place to live,” Mr. Jaga said.

In addition to the furniture donation, Rotary Club members also engaged the students in reading sessions. The reading activity was lively, with students taking turns to read. Chief Kayode Adenriokun, a Past Assistant Governor (PAG), praised the students’ enthusiasm for learning and encouraged them to study hard and maintain good conduct, emphasizing that these qualities are essential for achieving success. He observed that with focus and determination, the students would excel and shared that he even learned new things from them during the session.

Similarly, Rotarian Ifeoma Anieze Corona, a past president and Change Maker President (CMP), who also participated in the reading sessions, noted the students’ strong interest in academics. She advised them to avoid vices and negative influences that could derail their path to success and acknowledged their focus and brilliance, encouraging them to continue in that direction.
